Planting the Seed for Beltane

Planting the Seed for Beltane

We’re about to turn the ‘wheel of the year’ one more notch to Beltane. A beautiful time of abundance and fertility where we celebrate the sacred union of God and Goddess to fertilise the Earth.

This time of year is hugely significant in a Witch’s practice. It is a sabbat to Spring which marks the start of summer and the creation of new life, healthy crops, and creative endeavours.

A popular time of year for hand-fasting; Beltane brings a union of love, transformation and new beginnings. It is the perfect time to ask yourself: “What do I want to achieve?” and “What steps can I take towards my goals?”

How to celebrate Beltane

Beltane is a time of celebration and it is best celebrated with loved ones. Some traditions include maypoles, ceremonial fires, bonfires and bringing the outdoors in with flowers, wreaths and garlands.

We use this time to create a deep connection to the natural world and to practice gratitude for all we receive from the Earth.

Two Rituals to celebrate Beltane

One simple ritual you could use to celebrate Beltane would be to create a Beltane altar in your home using natural offerings and crystals.

Spend some time within nature and mindfully gather wildflowers, leaves, herbs and anything which draws you in and feels significant to you. Connect to each item and give gratitude to the Earth for these gifts. Arrange your gatherings on your altar together with crystals and candles in a quiet, sacred space. You can use this space to meditate, journal, read oracle cards or set your intentions.

Another simple ritual would be to write your intentions on strips of paper and bury with seeds in a pot or in the garden, anchored with crystals. As the seeds bloom into flowers, so do your intentions and desires. Don’t forget to journal the changes you notice happening during this time.

Crystals for Beltane

There are many crystals which you can use to tap into the energy of the season and the  renewed sense of purpose which Beltane brings. My personal choices for Beltane  include:

Clear Quartz - for her protective and cleansing energy.
Emerald - a stone of successful love, intuition, faith and serenity.
Green Flourite - for the heart space and to bring a little fairy magic.
Malachite - for promoting inner peace and increase abundance. Rose Quartz - the gift of unconditional love.

Browse my pick of beautiful Gem Heaven jewellery which would be the perfect accomplishment to your Beltane ceremony.

Beltane is celebrated every year on the 1st May, how will you be celebrating this year?
